How Kroger Helps You Save - plus a Giveaway - 2 WINNERS!

Wednesday night, April 28th, I was invited to attend the V.I.B.E (Very Important Blogger Event) at my local Kroger, along with four other local 'money-saving, deal-loving, blogging ladies' (@RVABargains, @CouponClippin, @MrsMoneysaver and @MyFourMonkeys).  Our time was spent sharing and learning about ways Kroger helps you save money.

Kroger is a company that has been around since 1883 when Barney Kroger opened the first store in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.  They have been in the Richmond, Virginia area since 2000.  They currently have 16 stores in the Richmond Metro Area and 9 of those store have Kroger Fuel Centers.  The stores & their fuel centers are aspects of Kroger that I am already well acquainted with - if you recall from my Weekly Savings Recaps - I most always have a Kroger fuel fill-up & a Kroger grocery trip for the week. What I wasn't familiar with was how involved Kroger is within our communities! 

In 2009, just here in the Richmond, Virginia area:
 * Kroger donated more than $120,000 to local nonprofit organizations through the 'Kroger Cares' Program.
* Kroger donated more than 132,000 pounds of fresh meat, vegetables, fruit, dairy and deli products to the Central Virginia Food Bank.
* Kroger donated $80,000 to the Richmond Chapter of the American Cancer Society in support of fighting Breast Cancer.
* Kroger awarded more than $120,000 in School Supplies & Equipment to 114 Richmond Metro Area Schools through their Plus Cards for Education Program!!!

We hear on the news every night how the schools in our state are struggling right now.  Teachers are getting laid off.  Student/Teacher ratios are growing.  Supplies & Equipment are dwindling & aging.  Our schools - our Teachers - and our Children are struggling right now.  We can help by just shopping!  This program supports ALL schools, public or private.  You can select your children's schools or your grand-children's schools.  If you don't have children you can choose to support the schools for your family members or your friends children. Since I have shared all the wonderful ways that Kroger helps & supports our local communities - let me share with you how they help you.  Kroger is dedicated to be the "Right Store. Right Price" for everything that you need.  Their stores offer a wide variety of fresh products in clean stores with great personal service to provide a pleasant one-stop shopping experience.  Kroger Mid-Atlantic doubles manufacturer coupons up to and including $.50 cents daily.  They offer an additional 5% savings for Senior Citizens on Tuesdays.  The Kroger Company offers their trusted brands; Private Selection, Kroger Brands and Value Brands at competitively low prices because they manufacturer most of those products themselves & pass those savings along to their customers.

Additionally, by shopping at Kroger you can save at the pump with their Kroger Fuel Centers.  Did you know that you can save up to $1 per gallon on fuel at Kroger?!  Gas is such a large part of every families budget these days!  How can you save, you ask?  It's easy!  For every 100 points you earn you receive 10 cents off per gallon of fuel for one fill-up (up to 35 gallons).  You can accrue up to & carry over 1000 points each month - which equals $1 off per gallon!  How do you earn these points, you ask?  That's easy, too!

There are 3 Ways to earn points in Kroger Stores:  
1) Your spending on your groceries.  $100 = 100 points.  
2) Have your Prescriptions (Non-federally funded) filled at your local Kroger Pharmacies.  2 Prescriptions = 100 points.  
3) Double Gift Card Points.  $50 in Gift Cards = 100 points. 

There is no limit to the amount of points you can earn.  You can only use up to 1000 points ($1 off) for a fill-up, though.  Unless you are a 1-2-3 REWARDS MasterCard holder & that will entitle you to an additional 5cents off at the pump - so a possibility of $1.05 off per gallon!  Points earned in the current month are available for use through the end of the following month.  Points do not combine from month to month.  Points less than 100 drop off at the end of each month.
